Get Organized : Plan your Week in Advance

Hello; Thank you for taking the time to stop by my blog.  My name is Mindy Wender and I am an independent fitness consultant for Beachbody.  I run my entire business that has grown pretty big in the last 2 years, online with the help and support of my husband and son from our home.  People ask me all the time how I find the time to do trainings, grow my business, help others, return messages, be a mom, a wife, etc. Most of the time, people think I must be one of those EXTREMELY organized SUPER moms that have it all figured out.  Well it’s true… NOT!!!

The truth is, before starting up my own fitness business as a Beachbody Coach, I was the most flighty, unorganized, ALWAYS BUSY but got nothing done type of person.  I thought I would never have time for all of the extra things that I now have on my plate, but to be honest, I feel like I have MORE time and I feel less stressed having all these extras in my life. I feel like a much better business owner, wife, mom, friend, and just an all around better person. I don’t mean that like I am perfect, I just know for me personally I am BETTER than I was and every day I strive to be better. So how do I balance all of these things in my life on a daily basis? I will give you a few of my tips that work for me and try to explain them in the best way I know how to make you feel more accomplished on a daily.

#1 BALANCE:

This is going to be a constant struggle for everyone. So many people think it is just one thing that helps you stay balanced at all times but that’s not true. Staying balanced is probably the most important thing you need to focus on.  If one small thing goes out of balance EVERYTHING starts to fall apart. I suggest that you write down your top 3-5 priorities in YOUR life (this is you personally, so don’t just write my business as #1 if its not, or family if its not…BE HONEST with yourself).  After you write out your priorities, explain briefly in a paragraph below each priority what that means to you.  For example, family, does that mean spending more time with them, providing for them, etc.? You need to make it clear what it means to you. Once you have this step done you will be able to work on keeping your life balanced in all listed areas.

#2 SCHEDULE:

schedule your calendar weekly

You need to live off a calendar in order to stay on track. Some people like to write things down rather than going to purchase a calendar, but I highly recommend trying to use either Google Calendar, or I have a Apple computer and an iPhone so I use my iCal A LOT. There are other programs out there as well so just figure out something that works for you and USE IT! Pick one day per week that you will create your weeks GAME PLAN… I do mine on Sundays just because its kind of a relaxing day for my family and me and it’s before the “work week” starts for most people. I sit down and I schedule all the things I have for the coming week. I schedule if I have to scrub my floors, clean the bathrooms, take Lane to the doctor, if I have a conference call or a webinar, if I have a date with Brad, MY WORKOUTS (super important), etc.

#3 SORT OUT YOUR TIME:

Now it is very important to sort out your time. You won’t have to do this every week, you just have to figure this out once and stick to it and edit it if needed. Again, looking at your priorities, figure out when you will work on which one. If God is a priority in your life create blocks of time you will spend on your spirituality.  If family is a priority you will need to create blocks of time in which you will have family time with no distractions, if business is a priority figure out how many hours per day you want to work on your business and create a block of time for that. This way you know that when a prospect or customers/coach (in my business) needs to schedule a call you know exactly when you are available to do so DURING your business hours. If you don’t have this stuff scheduled you end up spending more time on things that may not be a TOP priority to you and then you will feel stressed that you missed out on your family time.

#4 TO DO LIST:

Now that you know what your priorities are and you are scheduling your week in advanced, now it’s time to work from a DAILY to do list. This is something I learned A LOT from Chalene Johnson (www.ChaleneJohnson.com) Yes you have you entire week planned out but you need something that keeps you on track daily. You can either do it the old fashion way with pend to paper or you could always do what I do and use your smart phone to write your to do list on. I will say when having it on your smartphone its easier in my eyes because you ALWAYS have your phone with you so you can check it at all times. Now you need to figure out if you are more of a morning person or night person (everyone is different but morning before anyone wakes up or at night after everyone is a sleep is the best times to create this list) I do mine at night and then finish it in the am personally. Before I fall asleep I lay in bed, look over my weekly schedule, look over my priorities , and then start writing down all the things I have to do the next day. Then I sort my daily tasks in order of importance. This simple habit will allow you to feel less stress because you won’t have to try and remember all the things you have to do or stress that you are forgetting something and also you will gain confidence because you will be accomplishing SO MUCH more in less time!

#5 GOALS

Ok so anyone who knows me KNOWS that this is my favorite part… GOAL SETTING! This is so much fun so get excited. If you have never written out a goal before or are just unsure how I have a great blog on this subject (CLICK HERE to ready my where to start with goal setting blog) but assuming you know how to goal set this is why it’s so important. First of all when you are looking at your weekly or daily task you need to accomplish there has got to be your goals that you want to accomplish in the future on these list or you won’t be moving forward. So first of all you need to make it a plan that every week you will sit down and write out your goals. You can write out short term, medium term, and long term goals.. then you will need to set goal dates for each of your goals so you know when your deadline is to reach these goals. The next step after you get your goals written down is to start making a list of ways (at least 20 ways) on how you will accomplish these goals. Make sure you do this every single week and review these goals on a daily basis. This habit will BLOW YOUR MIND, trust me, it is so amazing what you will accomplish by having clear goals that are written down and then you plan your week with these goals in mind and create your to do list always adding things on your list with your goals in mind. My last tip with goal setting is  to make sure you keep your priorities in front of you while you are writing out your goals so you make sure you are creating them around the things that are most important to you.

Thanks Belinda :) Glad it helped you! I really am so unorganized but by spending a little time 1x per week to plan ahead it keeps me on track ALL week and the to do list daily that i make while laying in bed before I fall asleep helps me to clear my head of all I need to do and also keeps on track daily. Its a MUST to do these things for me being a busy business owner/mom/unorganized person :)
